Beneath the peaceful, rolling surface of those crystal waters, the ocean is stirring. Tremors surge through the bedrock, cracking the very fabric of the ocean floor. Deep sea ridges and ravines are appearing where previously there were none, and from these vast crevices, come terrors that none have ever seen before. Margoth has summoned violent, grotesque deep sea behemoths. These creatures are designed to wreak havoc over land and sea, and to flush Merfolk into waiting nets. Merfolk have become aggressive and defensive, with nowhere to hide they are forced onto land, where they are vulnerable. They are tortured, tested on and murdered for reasons that few can fathom. Some believe their time has come, their time to suffer at the hands of Margoth is nigh.

On top of the gift of terror and bloodshed, Margoth has designed a special sort of pestilence that attacks both land dweller, and aquatic beast in slightly different ways. It seems that each species infected reacts differently. Folha and Unicorns appear to be immune, whilst Merfolk seem to be most severely affected. They lose their scales, their tails slough leaving sores, and their gills become clogged with a thick, impermeable film of mucous. Those who live on land suffer exhaustion, nausea and kaleidoscopic vision which will progress to syncope if it remains untreated. The symptoms are exacerbated by drinking water, though not many have made this link. Really, Ale or wine-based beverages are the only suitable form of hydration, as the process seems to inactivate the organism. Boiling the water has no effect. There is no known cure for this disease.

With the end of Frostfall well and truly behind us, it is time to look towards the horizon, to where that summer sun promises warmth and new life. From the ashes of one of the hardest seasons faced by Caerians, take comfort in the coming days, because surely it can only get better from here? The best news that people will hear, is that: The Phoenix Festival preparations are underway. The spring and summer festival, weeks and weeks of festivities, food and fun are coming. Excitement and energy buzz in the atmosphere, and that is something clearly felt by our Unicorn inhabitants. Midnight racing, and bachelor brawls are common at the time of year, but don't take their aggressiveness and brashness too personally, it is their breeding season, after all.
